Victorian Extravaganza 2021

The Hungerford Victorian Extravaganza was a great success last Friday 10 December with the High Street full of stalls and funfair rides, street food, entertainers, Victorian carol singers and Rock Choir. The Parade delighted young and old alike with the Scottish Pipe band leading the way. It was heartwarming to see so many families carrying their magical home-made lanterns created at the Lantern Workshops in the previous week. The Town Hall was also full of local craft and gift stalls.

"It was lovely to see so many members of the public dressed in Victorian costume," said Hungerford Chamber of Commerce Chair Karen Salmon. The Best Dressed Victorian member of the public competition was won by Michele and Adam Lomas from Avebury and Stephanie Wiltshire from Cerney Wick. Best dressed shopkeeper was Sylvi Giulian of Borough Arms Hungerford, the best dressed charity stallholders were the The Community Of Hungerford Theatre Company and the best Christmas shop window was The Clockmaker Ltd.

We were really pleased how the event went and everyone who came had a great time," continued Karen. "It was especially good to meet people who hadn't been to Hungerford before who were delighted by our charming town. Sadly the steam engines and some of the charity stalls were unavoidably missed owing to Covid but we look forward to welcoming them back next year on Friday 9 December 2022.

We would like to thank all our sponsors including Greenham Trust, Hungerford Town Council and Town & Manor of Hungerford and West Berkshire's Welcome Back Fund," adds Karen Salmon. "And everyone who made this year's event special including our hard-working Chamber committee (especially Derek Loft), Stephen Hill funfairs, Kennet Radio 106.7, Rotary Club of Hungerford and their Santa.
